Washing Dishes Center
In the Red Room, the dish washing station was continually busy! Our students were very thorough in carrying out all steps of the sequence and many told us they had helped wash dishes at home too!
Food Cutting Center
In the Red Room, the children practiced cutting toy food with blunt knives. This was a great opportunity to reinforce the Second Step lesson on safety rules for "sharps" in the home.
Dramatic Play: Fruit and Vegetable Market Center
In the Orange Room, students created shopping lists at The Print Shop. They carried their lists to the market where the clerks filled their orders! All the fruits and vegetables were brought to the Red Room Home Living Center where the produce was put away. As the refrigerator was organized by food group baskets, our students quickly began to help each other put the produce away where it belonged.
This month, while we incorporated authentic writing into our dramatic play centers , we also focused practice on recognizing and forming letters.
Cookie Baking Center
In the Orange Room, the media bin became a cooking baking area! The children used rolling pins, cookie cutters, and spatulas to fill their trays with delicious looking cookies.
In the Orange Room, there were many opportunities to practice counting, recognize numerals, and gather quantities using dice and spinners.
This activity was a 2 stage process! Starting in the Orange Room, our students made prints using kitchen utensils. We then transferred the art work to the Red Room where they added fruit and vegetable prints. Even though we used forks to manipulate the items, no one mistakenly decided to taste!
Following a week of pizza stories and activities, we indulged with a pizza party! Our AM students assembled and baked a pizza to share. In our PM classes, we arranged for a special visitor to come after reading the story, Pizza Man!
